Thanks to technology, Columbia Pictures will be releasing “The Smurfs” as a live action 3D animated feature film. Although it’s been about 21 years since NBC took the cartoon off air, not much has changed since the days of the cartoon. Gargamel is still hunting down the tiny blue Smurfs, but this time he’s managed to chase them out of their magical village and into the world of reality. Of course all magical creatures that mysteriously leave their world end up in New York City. The Smurfs have to find their way out of the Big Apple and back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.

Some of your favorite actors/artists will be voicing the little blue characters. You’ve got Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, George Lopez as Grouchy Smurf, Paul Rubens as Jokey Smurf, and Katy Perry aka “Ms. I Kissed a Girl and I Liked It” as the voice of Smurfette. As for some of the human roles you’ve got Neil Patrick Harris as young Johan, and

Hank Azaria as the evil Smurf hunting wizard Gargamel.

You’ll be able to get Smurf’d in August of 2011. Until then you can brush up on your singing skills with a little, “La La La La La La... La La La La La”.
